Description | SUMMARY OF POSITION Works with groundsmen to assist lineworkers in electric construction with skilled support ground work. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Duties* Assists electric construction lineworkers in replacing rotten poles and damaged cross arms; Assists in installation of security lights and street lights; Assists in installing new electric utility lines; Assists in making sure that work trucks are fully stocked with supplies and equipment; Assists with the maintenance of department facilities, grounds, department equipment, and vehicles; Assists in installation, maintenance, removal, and replacement of electric meters; Assists in trimming trees and brush from power lines and easements; Chips, loads, and transports limbs and brush; and Operates all departmental equipment utilized in the installation and maintenance of the electrical system, such as bucket truck, digger, derrick, pole truck, and other large trucks. Other Important Duties* Works with other departments on utility projects; Serves as essential emergency personnel when required; Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position; and Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: medical first aid procedures; electrical construction equipment; and miscellaneous tools. Skill/Ability to: understand and follow instructions; operate light equipment, hand tools, and trucks; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; and maintain Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record. Safety/Physical Requirements: Heavy. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying and using a force equal to ninety (90) pounds. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school graduation, or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED Valid Class A Texas driver’s license.
