The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida is hiring for the following Law Enforcement Officer positions:

 

Deputy Sheriff—Recruit (Sponsorship):

Competitive candidates are encouraged to apply for a limited number of paid sponsorships to a law enforcement academy. A strong candidate has a good work history and a low incident rate of substance abuse. 

  • Sponsored Recruits are paid $19.36/hour while attending the academy.

 

Deputy Sheriff—Patrol:

***$1,500 or $2,500 Signing Allowance (see Salary info for details)***

Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This work involves an element of personal danger and frequent contact with the public during routine and emergency situations.

  • $2,500 Signing Allowance - Candidates with 2 years full-time law enforcement officer experience and Florida certified (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests) will receive a signing allowance; all others will receive a $1,500 Signing Allowance. Rehired Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) employees, prior and current Reserve Deputies, and current OCSO employees are not eligible for either signing allowance.
  • $46,009.60 - Candidates with less than 4 years law enforcement officer experience (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests).
  • $49,223.60 - Candidates with 4+ years of full-time law enforcement officer experience (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests).

 

Deputy Sheriff—School Resource Officer (SRO):

**$2,500 Signing Allowance (see Salary info for details)**
The incumbent in this position must be committed to being involved with children in Orange County public schools or community based programs. The incumbent in this position is also responsible for working with the school principal, teachers, and staff to assist in the development of plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations. They are also responsible for providing presentations to groups, especially in a classroom setting. The incumbent is required to engage in the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators, if observed or when assistance is requested from dispatch or other deputy sheriffs. Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This work involves an element of personal danger and frequent contact with the public during routine and emergency situations.

  • $2,500 Signing Allowance - All candidates with the required two years full-time law enforcement officer experience and Florida certified will receive a signing allowance. Rehired Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Deputy Sheriffs, prior or current Reserve Deputies, and current OCSO employees are not eligible for a signing allowance.
  • $46,009.60 - Candidates with less than 4 years law enforcement officer experience (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests).
  • $49,223.60 - Candidates with 4+ years of full-time law enforcement officer experience (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests.

 

Deputy Sheriff - Court Security (Full-time or Part-time):

***$2,000 Signing Allowance for Full-time Court Security Deputies (see Salary info for details) ***

The incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining law and order in and around the courtroom, ensuring the protection and safety of persons in and around the courtroom, and expediting courtroom proceedings by preparing the courtroom, ensuring the prisoner's prompt appearance in court, and following directives from the judge.

  • $2,000 signing allowance for Full-time Court Security Deputies. Rehired Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Deputy Sheriffs, prior and current Reserve Deputies, and current OCSO employees are not eligible for the $2,000 signing allowance.
  • $42,827 - Candidates with less than 4 years full-time law enforcement officer experience and are Florida certified (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests).
  • $44,969 - Candidates with 4 or more years of full-time law enforcement officer experience and are Florida certified (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests).)
