Librarian I - Youth Services

The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, and promote teen services at the Wichita Falls Public Library. This is accomplished by conducting, planning and promoting teen programs, events and tours as required, and acting as liaison to schools and other community organizations serving teenagers in Wichita Falls and the surrounding area. Other duties include assisting at the Service Desks, answering general informational and reference questions, assisting in developing the teen collection, and providing instruction as needed on the use of library computers and materials. Sound working knowledge of department policies and procedures is required as there may also be assigned Circulation shifts. Some evening and weekend shifts are required and will serve as Librarian In Charge as needed. Some experience in working with teenagers and working with computers is highly desirable, as are excellent communication and organizational skills.

Formal Education Required  Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.  Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of colleege resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.    MLS or MLIS is preferred.

Experience Required  Over one year up to and including two years.

Essential Functions

Plans and directs teen services for the library to include weekly activities for teens, special summer programming for teens, producing themed displays, conducting tours, and acting as liaison to schools and other organizations serving teenagers in the local area. Promotes activities and services using a variety of resources (website, calendars, social media etc).

Conducts in-depth research for advocates of teenagers using a wide variety of technologies. Coordinates production of readers’ advisory materials such as bookmarks, brochures, general signage, book displays and themed displays for the Youth area.

Assists in collection development by researching, evaluating and ordering materials primarily for Teen collections, monitoring assigned budget areas, and assisting with deselection.

Works the circulation desk as needed by checking materials in and out, responding to general inquiries, placing items on hold, and collecting fines. Sorts items in circulation workroom, accurately shelves returned materials, collects materials for statistical counts, assists with inventories as and when needed.

Compensation

$32,281.60 - Annually
