Description | Evidence & Property Technician $15.65-$17.61 Hourly; Full-time position **TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION, PLEASE VISIT WWW.TEMPLETX.GOV/JOBS** Job Summary Receive incoming evidence / property, following established control procedures. Prepare documents needed for the disposition of evidence / property; maintain detailed records of disposed items; maintain running inventory of property rooms; transport evidence to and from the State labs; make court appearances pertaining to the care and custody of evidence, testifying in court when needed. Essential Duties & Responsibilities •Receive incoming evidence / property, scan into computer to establish initial control. Visually inspect each piece of incoming evidence / property to make sure that it conforms to accepted packaging / processing standards and package when necessary. Lawfully dispose of evidence and found / abandoned property IAW applicable laws and retention periods. Prepare destruction orders, certified letters, inventories, and other paperwork needed for the lawful disposition of evidence / property, maintaining detailed records of all evidence and property disposed items. Maintain proficiency on current evidence trends and law updates. Order, maintain, and stock evidence packing supplies. •Maintain an accurate, up to date inventory of the property rooms. Maintain custody controls of evidence / property and items removed from storage. Establish proper storage areas for evidence / property for easy access and security. Assist or conduct inventories / audits as required. •Make copies of audio, video, and photo evidence, as needed. Coordinate with other units of the department and other agencies regarding control of evidence / property. •Identify, court-order, and inventory narcotics for drug training kits. •Separate felony narcotics, prepare them for transport to the State crime lab and generate a DPS Lab Submission Form for each case. •Transport evidence to and from the State labs. Make court appearances pertaining to the care and custody of evidence, testify in court when needed. Generate DPS Lab Submission forms and other forms for submissions, document in RMS. Distribute lab reports to concerned parties in the judicial system. •Return property to rightful owners in person or via mail. •Responsible for record retention and schedules of records maintained in the Property Unit. •Assist with Open Record Requests, and the City Attorney's Office. •Perform weekly custodial duties inside the property room, ensuring a neat, clean, orderly environment. Establish proper storage area and store evidence / property for easy access and security. •Oversee inventory and property management. •Make recommendations that impact the department budget. •Manage the budget within the assigned division.
