Description

Under the general direction of the Mid-Way Airport Regional Airport Board and Waxahachie Assistant City Manager, the Airport Manager manages day-to-day operations of the Airport, including flight safety, tenant relations, coordination of airport development, and the facility.  Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and mandates. Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is related or a logical assignment to this class. 

  • Works closely with and provides support to the Mid-Way Airport Regional Airport Board.
  • Manages the daily operations of the airport, include monitoring transportation schedules, inspecting airport property for safety concerns, making sure that airport services are operating smoothly.
  • Manages all Airport maintenance, infrastructure and construction projects to foster the full development potential of the Airport. 
  • Coordinates with outside agencies as necessary to secure supplemental funding and accountable for securing and overseeing federal and state grants related to airport construction and revenue enhancement.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations, monitoring internal departments and outside vendors for compliance.
  • Maintains the financial well-being of the airport including annual budgets, capital expenditures and long-term development of fiscal goals as well as daily financial tasks that may include paying bills and managing payments received.
  • Negotiates and administers Airport contracts, ground leases, hangar leases and concession agreements with Airport tenants.
  • Responds quickly and decisively in emergency situations or after accidents occur, working with first responders/FAA and, in some cases, consoling grieving family members.  Following accidents, works with NTSB officials on their preliminary investigation.
  • Interacts with customers on a daily basis to solve problems or answer complaints and to maintain positive client relations.
  • Provides information to the public relations manager to handle media relations for special event activities, emergencies or major events and to inform the public of changes in airport rules or security procedures.
  • Conducts site visits with potential economic development clients.

Education, Training and Experience: An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, aviation, public administration or a related field is desired.
  • Four years related progressively-responsible aviation experience is required. 
  • Preferable experience will be in municipal airport operations.
  • Possession of or willingness to work towards an American Association of Airport Executives Accreditation is desirable.

 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: 

  • A valid State driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
