Parking Vehicle Control Officer

Summary: Performs work of average difficulty to enforce parking regulations; enforce regulations on abandoned vehicles; and perform related work as required.

Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  •  Maintains and inspects the daily impound logs.
  • Contacts the contract wrecker services on a daily basis in reference to abandoned motor vehicle packets.
  • Responsible for notifying owner/lien holders of abandoned vehicles.
  • Conducts abandoned motor vehicle auctions and related responsibilities.
  • Patrols the incorporated area of the City of Odessa on foot/vehicle to enforce parking regulations.
  • Issues tickets for parking violations.
  • Conducts impounds on abandoned motor vehicle and related paperwork.
  • Responds to call for service in reference to abandoned motor vehicles and parking problems.
  • Receives complaints concerning overtime parking and/or abandoned vehicles and resolves or refers to supervisor.
  • Supports the division operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of (1) one year experience with cash transactions preferred and heavy public contact.

 Skills Test: Typing test with a minimum score of 30 wpm with 10 errors or less.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  •  Some knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Ability to use personal computer as needed
  • Ability to read and write
  • Maintains personal appearance
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Able to deal effectively with the public
  • Able understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Must have basic mathematical skills
  • Must have general knowledge of city streets
  • Must remain mindful of highly visible image to the community
  • Maintain physical/mental ability to handle stressful situations.

 

License and certification requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license.

 Special notice to applicants: It is the applicant's responsibility to take and pass the typing test by the deadline of 8/21/2019 with a minimum score of 30wpm with 10 or less errors, the typing test is administered at the Texas Workforce Solutions, 2626 JBS Parkway.
