Description | JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating department communications operations under the direction of a Police Lieutenant. SALARY: $45,580/yr to $56,975/yr DOQ MAJOR DUTIES:
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Police Lieutenant assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Supervisor instruction, city and departmental policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, national and state crime information center rules, and supervisory directives. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied supervisory, administrative and police dispatch duties. The variety of circumstances encountered contributes to the complexity of the position. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in receiving of emergency and non-emergency calls and the dispatching of department personnel. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city employees, representatives of other emergency response agencies, and the general public. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over Senior Communications Officer (2) and Communications Officer (8). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Three (3) years experience as a Communications Supervisor at a Law Enforcement Agency. Associates degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess TCIC/NCIC certification and TCOLE Telecommunications Operator license. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License issued by the State of Texas. A combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
