The purpose of this position is to operate medium and heavy equipment and will be responsible for acting as on site crew leader along with the operation of maintenance, repair and installation of asphalt and concrete; performs excavating, grading, trenching, loading, and related heavy equipment operations along with a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual work, and maintenance of equipment. Emphasis is on the operation of trucks, backhoes, excavators, loaders and other equipment where driving and maneuvering the vehicle constitutes the majority of the work required to complete tasks. Classification is reserved for those positions where operation of included equipment is the primary function of the job, but may occasionally operate equipment at higher levels, however, not as their primary work function. High School diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in the operation of commercial vehicles; or any combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Virginia Commerical driver’s license (CDL, Class B minimum) including appropriate endorsement(s), with the ability to maintain Town insurability requirements and Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act regulations. After hire: must possess and maintain Work Zone Safety, Flagging, CPR and First Aid certifications.
