Description | GIS Specialist Job Summary Under general supervision of the Transportation Director, the GIS Specialist is responsible for entering and updating City Record Drawing information and Public Works GIS infrastructure data for Streets, Water, Wastewater, Drainage, Solid Waste, and Engineering. This position is expected to produce maps for city departments and consultants upon request. The work at this level requires the GIS Specialist to be able to collect GPS information in the field to verify conflicting data and work independently with little supervision. The desired candidate will have experience using ESRI ArcMap software and extensions, Trimble GPS technology, and AutoCAD software. Essential Duties & Responsibilities •Maintain record drawing information for all Public Works divisions to include: Streets, Water, Wastewater, Drainage, Solid Waste, and Engineering. Provide record drawing copies and prepare documents as necessary. Maintain other departmental records as assigned. •Review and prepare geographic record materials for entry into the GIS layers and databases. •Maintain As-built library of City infrastructure: Digital, paper, and Mylar. •Maintain and update asset inventory in GIS-centric Asset Management System, Cityworks. •Follow routine procedures to generate and print maps according to specifications. •Effectively communicate with engineers, architects, contractors, developers, land owners, citizens, and city staff. •Enter information into hand-held (GPS) Global Positioning System devices.
