Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant and collection system lift stations to provide and protect public health, safety and sanitation while ensuring compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations.  Work with potentially hazardous chemicals and in potentially hazardous work areas and environmental conditions.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Operate and adjust process control equipment including aeration systems, clarifiers, pump and flow control devices, disinfection systems, and grit and grease removal systems.  Perform tests, calculate dosages and apply chemicals.
  2. Operate sludge processing equipment including gravity thickeners, rotary drum thickeners, ATAD digesters, digested sludge holding tanks, centrifuges and sludge application equipment.
  3. Collect samples, keep records of activities and enter information into database.
  4. Operate collection system lift stations – cleans, adjusts and documents activities.
  5. Perform routine, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on all plant structures and equipment.
  6. Generate and complete work orders using computerized maintenance management system.
  7. Work assigned weekends, holidays, and shifts.  Be on-call and able to respond to emergency situations as assigned.
  8. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:
Required: 

High School Diploma or G.E.D., and up to two (2) years experience related to area of assignment.  Obtain Class "B" CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement within two (2) months of hire.  Obtain Wastewater Grade D (or higher) certification within six (6) months of hire, and the ability to upgrade to Grade C certification within two (2) years of hire or as directed by the department.  Available for emergency response and shift work, to include on-call duties after hours and weekends and holidays. 

Preferred: 

Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations.  Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment and machinery used in wastewater treatment plant operations.  Knowledge of safety hazards and safe-practice standards in the work area assigned and the knowledge of how to wear and use personal protective equipment.  Grade "C" or higher Wastewater Treatment Operator License.
