Description | Overview The City of Corpus Christi is seeking a high performing and experienced leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Information Technology. This position will provide oversight of all IT Operations while supervising personnel and/or Divisions within the department at the direction of the Director of Information Technology.
The Assistant Director is responsible for the day to day management of IT including, but not limited to, the development of business plans, determines project assignments, prepares budgets, and provides direction on making IT Operations cost efficient and customer service focused. The position works closely with the IT Director to develop working knowledge of IT operations, current projects, departmental technology requirements, and City policies.
The Assistant Director serves in a senior leadership role to support the department Director through long term strategic planning and displaying sound judgement in department programs and services.
Responsibilities and Duties · Coordinate with department management, staff, and supervisory personnel to establish and accomplish IT Department goals and objectives. · Provide direction to department staff on providing a cost efficient and customer-focused IT Operation. · Provide continuous effort to improve service delivery, root-cause analysis, improve IT operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. · Supervise one or more IT Divisions at the direction of the IT Director; coach and mentor professional employees to contribute as engaged teams that successfully achieve performance goals. · Review employee knowledge and skill needs and establish or coordinate training plans; projects workforce requirements and determines resource allocation within a division. · Respond to and resolve complaints dealing with division personnel or service delivery; assist in Departmental resource planning that coincides with the technology and business strategy for the City. · Research industry best practices that reflect the most effective application of information technology and resources for the City. · Represent the Department in absence of the Director at City Council, state, community, and other meetings; establishes and maintains liaison with government agencies and other city departments. · Manage contracts and vendors for professional, cloud/hosted, and project services used by the City in support of daily business. · May be asked to perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities · Requires a high level of critical thinking and excellent analytical skills. · Must be able to read and absorb technical and abstract topics quickly. Will require daily reading and comprehensive understanding from related technical journals, technical books, financial information, and management-related training materials. · Must be able to understand complex problems in IT and other Departments and recommend appropriate technical or process solutions; must have excellent pattern recognition ability; must understand strategy development and execution; must predict, with a reasonable level of confidence, the effect of emerging technologies on City operations; must understand the impact of related external factors (economics, etc.) on City operations.
Certifications, Licenses or Other Requirements · Current recognized certification such as PMP, ITIL, Six Sigma and/or similar methodologies highly preferred
Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Computer Science or closely related field required (BA/BS) · Minimum of seven (7) years directly related experience in an IT organization comparable to the City of Corpus Christi; experience in municipal government is preferred · A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
