The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) administers and manages the $57+ billion retirement fund for the County of Los Angeles. We provide retirement, disability, and death benefits to eligible County employees and their beneficiaries, and collect, deposit, invest, and manage retirement funds collected from the County, outside districts, and County employees.

The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) Internship Program is a continuous, as needed, opportunity for both highly motivated and aspiring undergraduate, graduate and doctorate Interns. This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain paid experience and on-the-job training at a government entity. LACERA is an independent governmental entity, separate and distinct from Los Angeles County.

The position is located in the Investment Office in the Global Equities.

The Ideal Candidate will possess the following Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of capital markets pricing, fundamental, technical and behavioral equity analysis.
  • Strong understanding of modern portfolio theory and experience in equity portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated experience researching, evaluating, and conducting due diligence of external equity managers.
  • Demonstrated experience managing public equity assets internally in an institutional setting, such as a pension or endowment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing RFP/RFI documentation and evaluating responses.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting recommendations to a Board or Investment Committee.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Proficiency in using investment risk analytics systems that include public equities.
  • MBA and/or CFA designation preferred.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field -AND- Four (4) years' responsible investment management experience assisting in the continuing supervision and review of an extensive investment program for a large financial institution or governmental agency. An additional two(2) years of the required experience may be substituted for a college degree.

A Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field and two (2) years' responsible investment management experience assisting in the continuing supervision and review of an extensive investment program for a large financial institution or governmental agency.

-OR-

Two (2) years' experience at the level of Los Angeles County's position of Finance Analyst II, LACERA.
