Lift Station Maintenance (Official Job Title: Skilled Trades Worker II) (2 Positions):   Responsible for the installation, maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of all electrical and mechanical equipment and appurtenances at all Public Utilities facilities.  Must be fully proficient in the duties of a Skilled Trades Worker I and demonstrate the ability to construct and repair electrical panels, fabricate mechanical repairs, and have a basic knowledge of instrumentation, telemetry, communications systems and computers. 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:   This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.


Duties:

  • Install, replace, repair and modify mechanical and electrical equipment located on and within Public Utilities facilities, including, but not limited to, pumps valves, regulators, actuators, control panels, communication systems, motor controls, electronic filtering and switching systems.  Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and County safety requirements, including lock-out/tag-out and confined space entry as well as general industry safety rules.  
  • Document and maintain work order and safety records in written and in electronic format.  Respond to emergency situations as needed.  
  • Perform lift station maintenance that may include mowing, trimming of shrubbery, weed-eating, pressure washing, fence repairs and painting.  Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:    A High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience in performing pump, valve or hydraulic system repair and maintenance which includes work in the water/wastewater collection field.  A valid Driver’s License is required.  Must obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:    Valid Class "C" wastewater collection system certification.  Ability to obtain a Class "B" wastewater collection system certification within two (2) years. Possession of a valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement. Safety training in Hazcom, Confined Spaces, Hearing Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence, Lockout/Tagout, Fire Extinguishers, Personal Protection Equipment, Fall Protection.

Job Based Competencies:

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art technology in mechanical equipment, maintenance and test equipment, equipment trouble shooting and repair of hydraulic controls and pumps; building construction trades, methods, codes, practices, tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow color codes, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, plans and written instructions and work under limited supervision. 
  • Course in pump or motor repair, control panel repair, hydraulics, welding, communications and/or telemetry. 
  • Proficiency in the operation of and electric multimeter, volt meter, and megohmeter . 
  • Proficient in the operation of a 1.5-ton crane truck.

Work Schedule:    7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Monday through Friday.  This position is subject to on-call duties that include working overtime, evening, nights, weekends and holidays.  Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.

Physical Demands:    Must occasionally lift pumps/motors that are up to 50 pounds.  A dolly/cart is available. This position regularly works outdoors with dangerous equipment and risk of electrical shock and exposure to blood-borne pathogens.  The incumbent will wear protective clothing.
