Description | SUMMARY OF POSITION Greets the visitors to the City of Boerne Animal Shelter facility and provides assistance. Under immediate supervision, maintains the Animal Shelter in a clean sanitary manner while providing all shelter animals with humane care and attention. Prepares correspondence specific to the department and accepts and maintains records of various payments. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Duties* Provides assistance to visitors who come to the facility, answers telephone calls and relays messages to department personnel; Responsible for the general upkeep of the Animal Control Facility Offices & Kennels including; cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining various animal quarters, accompanying areas, supplies and equipment in a sanitary manner; Assists with maintaining all records for the facility including impoundment, adoption and euthanasia; Assists with the Annual Rabies Drive, Adoption Events and scheduling/working with volunteers; and Assists with maintaining the Animal Care Services webpage and other forms of social media used to promote the adoption of the pets at the shelter. Other Important Duties* Serves as essential emergency personnel when required; Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position; and Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: animal behavior, city ordinances and state laws related to animal control, basic bookkeeping and word processing and typing preparation. Skill/Ability to: operate modern office equipment, including typewriter and computer, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees in other departments; deal effectively with the public; understand and follow oral instructions. Safety/Physical Requirements: Heavy. Tasks involved include bending, lifting, walking, and carrying our using a force equal to lifting 50 pounds or heavier. Must be able to work outdoors and in extreme working weather conditions. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school graduation or its equivalent. Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. |
