This position earns a competitive hourly salary of $21.21 - $25.25.  In addition, The City of Pearland offers an excellent benefits package including a voluntary ICMA 457 deferred compensation program, as well as membership in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match. The City of Pearland pays all premiums for the employee’s dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance and the City pays the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and dependents

Job Summary:

The purpose of this job within the organization is to perform detailed plan reviews, primarily on commercial projects, assessing the design drawings for conformance with the City's adopted codes and standards.

This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


Essential Functions:

Performs detailed plan reviews, primarily on commercial projects.

Assesses the design drawings for conformance with the City's adopted codes and standards.

Ensures the health safety and welfare of the future building occupants and emergency responders through code compliance.

Completes special projects as assigned by the Chief Building Official.

Assists architects, engineers, developers, homeowners and the general public with code related questions as needed and provides information and instruction.

Corresponds with customers.

Trains others in the use of Blue Beam review software.

Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

Requires an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in planning or closely related field.

Requires two years planning or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Plans Examiner Certification through the International Code Council

Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License (or, the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
