Description

The City of Cedar Park is currently accepting applications for the  part-time Municipal Court Bailiff.  THIS IS NOT A CIVIL SERVICE POSITION. This position reports to the Municipal Court Administrator. 

  • Ensures the personal safety of the Judges and all persons in the courtrooms and surrounding areas;
  • Assists with handling (handcuffing and/or restraining) inmates during transport in and out of the courtroom;
  • Maintains security during all court proceedings including maintaining the custody of in-custody defendants;
  • Makes arrests of subjects in court at direction of Judge.May assist in arranging transport of of subjects to jail and ensures all documentation is accurate and adequate for arrest and detention;
  • Screens and searches as necessary all people entering the courthouse to prevent the carrying of weapons and/or contraband items into the building;
  • Monitors and operates security and radio equipment; and
  • Maintains the necessary TCOLE training requirements to retain Texas Peace Officer License; and
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

High School Diploma or the equivalentmust meet the minimum age requirements (21), and mental health educational standards set by the state and department.
 
Prefer a minimum of two (2) years with a law enforcement agency as a patrol officer, bailiff, or criminal investigations.

Must have Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) License.
 
Must be able to obtain, within one year, court security specialist certification per Texas Government Code, Chapter 158.

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

NOTE: Unless already holding a Texas Peace Officer Commission with the Cedar Park Police Department, hiring will be contingent on passing a criminal background check, firearms test, and oral board, a post-offer, pre-employment physical exam, psychological exam, and a drug test.

The Bailiff role is a regular part-time position, with hours that vary from 10-18 hours per week, working Tuesday through Friday.
