Description

The Journeyman Plumber performs work of a skilled variety demanding a high degree of manual and technical competency required for the repair, maintenance, testing, installation, alteration, and modernization of plumbing an irrigation system facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Essential Duties:

Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems and fixture installations.

Installs and repairs lawn sprinkler systems.

Tests and repairs backflow prevention devises.

Locates and troubleshoots plumbing problems.

Performs general carpentry and renovation work in the construction, repair, or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens.

Installs water and sanitary fixtures and equipment.

Repairs toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, guide wires, etc.

Sands, paints, or stains walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables, and other wooden articles.

Hangs and finishes sheetrock, paneling, wallpaper, tile, and moldings.

Installs and repairs carpeting, installs glass panes, and installs suspended ceiling grids and tiles.

Responds to emergency calls on a 24 hour call cycle.

Supervises activities of community service workers assigned by courts.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

 

Nonessential Duties:

Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

High School Diploma or GED and a minimum two years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Currently licensed as a Journeyman Plumber in Texas required.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.  Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days.

Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, or directions from superiors.
  • Requires the ability to read work orders, logs, diagrams, etc.
  • Requires the ability to prepare work orders, activity logs and reports according to prescribed formats.
  • Requires considerable knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment related to the plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and electrical trades.
  • Requires general knowledge of the occupational hazards of building trades work and the associated safety precautions.
  • Requires skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform plumbing, masonry, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and woodworking tasks.
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Requires the ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time as required by work assignments.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Requires the ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
  • Requires the ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools. Must be able to operate motor vehicles, including light pickup and dump trucks. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Position requires the ability to lift more than 60 pounds. Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces. Must have minimal levels of eye, hand, and foot coordination. Requires the ability to see, smell, taste, and hear.
