Olathe has a modified council-manager form of government.  The City Council consist of seven members including the Mayor.  The Police Chief plans, directs, manages, supervises, and oversees the activities and operations of the Police Department. 

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree is preferred. The candidate must be a graduate of a law enforcement command school (for example FBI National Academy or SMIP) and have at least 10 years of extensive law enforcement experience, including at least four years of administrative and supervisory experience beyond first line supervisor.  A Kansas Law Enforcement Officer Certificate, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment, and an appropriate, valid driver’s license are required.  The position midpoint is $177,000 with the actual salary depending on qualifications and experience.
