Description
Performs labor work associated with the maintenance of the City's Parks and facilities during the summer under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor.

This is a seasonal position which works a 40 hour schedule from Saturday-Thursday.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs semi-skilled to skilled work in specialized areas of municipal parks operations to include mowing, weed-eating, cleaning buildings, mower maintenance, trash pick-up, planting trees, painting, playground inspections, equipment installation, etc.
  • Picks up trash and empties trash cans in City Parks.
  • Cleans and maintains restrooms in City Parks.
  • Accomplishes work as assigned in the operations of park maintenance.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged items in facilities or on grounds.
  • Installs landscape and ornamental plant materials and irrigation systems.
  • Operates a variety of maintenance and construction equipment in projects involving complex operating conditions.
  • Performs duties to support the Recreation and Community Service programs of the City.
  • Receives assignments and instructions by a superior, but is expected to use some discretion in determining proper work methods and procedures.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
  • Insures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times.
  • May perform other assignments and assist with special projects as required.

 

 Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED.  Minimum one (1) year of verifiable experience in parks maintenance and/or related field.  Valid Texas Driver's License required. 

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of the provisions in the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of motorized equipment on public streets and highways.
  • Knowledge in the use of standard hand tools, operation of light power driven equipment, trucks, and other vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in providing good customer service.
  • Ability to quickly learn and retain how to use all required tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use two-way radios.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with other employees, departments, and the general public, and exhibit a positive attitude.
  • Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule.
