We are growing and looking for a dedicated individual to join our team!

 

uccessful candidate is an energetic, team-oriented individual with a strong public service commitment. Duties include selecting and maintaining materials for the youth collection. Plan, develop, and implement programs for children and young adults, and make professional-level library technical decisions. The work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of the public library field, particularly as it relates to youth library services.
 

**This position will work approximately 15 hours per week.** 

 

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Initiate, plan, and conduct a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library by youth of all ages; including but not limited to story times, crafts, special events, reading clubs/programs, along with school and community outreach.
  • Coordinates youth operations with other library services and functions.
  • Assists in promoting library use, especially programs and services of Youth Services department.
  • Oversees collection development and maintenance of youth areas.
  • Provides reference service to children and parents and provides reader's advisory service.
  • Meets with members of the library and others in order to coordinate activities and exchange information.
  • Monitors the condition of the youth service area and the security of the children's collection area.
  • Participates in short- and long-range planning for youth and general library programs.
  • Assist patrons at the circulation desk, which includes charging and discharging materials, receiving and recording fines/fees, issuing library cards to applicants, answering phone calls, and assisting patrons with reference questions, catalog search, computer assistance, and printer.
  • Create displays to enhance the library experience and to promote use of the library and its materials.
  • Create bibliographies, user guides, promotional materials, and publicity spotlighting the youth department collection, services, and programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of the automated circulation and technical services systems and assist with circulation and technical service tasks, as needed.

 

Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
      Experience:

  • At least one year working with children ages birth to 16 years old in a library or educational environment.
  • Must pass MVR check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

      Training:

  • A Master's of Library or Information Science from an American Library Associated accredited program is required.
