  • Friday 9a-6p
  • ** every 3 weeks, Saturday 9:30a-5:30p
  • ** the weeks working Saturday, Monday is off

Salary: $1,938.09 bi-weekly (26 pp)

Summary:

The Young Adult Services Librarian provides friendly customer service to all Library patrons and will specialize in providing services for teens and older elementary age children.  This person acts as a coordinator of digital resources and of Library marketing.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinate, implement, and promote programs for teen and upper elementary age children including the summer reading club, craft events, games, etc.

  2. Assist the Library Services Manager in managing the Library’s electronic resources including editing the website, recommending electronic resources, selecting ebooks and digital magazines, and by planning for emerging technologies to improve services.

  3. Select materials for assigned areas of the collection using approved selection tools and maintain resources in current status by weeding and reordering.

  4. Coordinate marketing for all Library services and programs through various means such as newspaper advertisements, the Library newsletter, digital signage, website and social media.

  5. Assist patrons with reference needs utilizing print and non-print resources in all subject areas, answering questions in person or by phone, mail, and e-mail.

  6. Have a working knowledge of and assist the public in using a variety of software applications, email, on-line databases, the internet, ereaders and all public access equipment and machines.

  7. Assist the public in using the online catalog and other electronic resources to find library materials, and order materials through interlibrary loan, TexShare, and from other MetrOPAC libraries.

  8. Operate standard library equipment such as audio-visual equipment, copiers, microform machines, computers, self-checkout and sorting equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.

  2. Minimum of one year working in a library preferred.

  3. Three (3) years of experience in a customer service role that required active problem solving to a diverse client base.

  4. Strong organizational skills, able to readily adapt to assigned tasks, and adhere to departmental policies.

  5. Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and citizens of all ages.

  6. Working knowledge of MS Windows operating system, MS Office, Internet, on-line database retrieval, microfiche and related hardware.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to read a computer screen or documents, grasp, handle, feel, type, listen, hear, reach, see, speak, walk, and sit for long periods.  The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, crouch, carry, climb, stand, and lift up to 35lbs.  Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office with limited exposure to outdoors in extreme weather conditions.  Hours vary.  Some overtime may be required.
