Under general direction of the Manager – Tourism & Athletics and Recreation Supervisors in the Tourism & Athletics Division, the Event Specialist is responsible for performing activities related to planning, developing, implementing special events, athletic events and sporting activities for tourism and community purposes.

 Principal Duties:
  1. Assist with coordinating, organizing, promoting and supervision of the activities related to special events, athletic events and sporting activities for tourism and community purposes.
  2. Ensure appropriate equipment and materials are available for the successful operations of assigned event(s).
  3. Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned special/athletic events, which includes: assisting in the planning, developing, coordinating, administering, and evaluating events, projects, processes, procedures, systems, and standards; oversee and assist with special/athletic facilities rentals and scheduling; and maintain adequate inventory and upkeep of equipment.
  4. Oversee Temp-Seasonal recreation staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; ensuring employees are trained; ensuring that employees adhere to policies and procedures
  5. Assist with the supervision of special/athletic events at a variety of locations in the City; evaluate special/athletics events effectiveness, participation, and customer service through the distribution of participant surveys and make recommendations for improvement or modifications.
  6. Coordinate with the Parks & Recreation Marketing Coordinator, the development and distribution of recreational brochures, fliers, mailings, and/or other related public relations materials for events/activities.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned, to include but not limited to, participating in/on a variety of meetings, internal/external committees, and/or other related boards as requested.
 Qualifications:

Required:   
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years' experience related to area of assignment, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to deal effectively with public and private group agencies and other organizations contacted in the course of the work. Experience working with sports associations, designing tournaments, and hosting special/athletic events. Ability to work various hours including nights, weekends and holiday. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Possess a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license.

Preferred:       
Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field.
