DEPARTMENT: JUVENILE PROBATION

JOB TITLE: THERAPIST – GIRL’S COURT PROGRAM

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Therapist provides counseling (individual, family, and group) and consultation services for the specialized Girl’s Court Program (GCP). The GCP is a gender specific intervention program focusing on females between the ages of 13 and 17 who are at risk or victims of Human Trafficking. The target population will include female survivors of sexual abuse, sexual victimization, and sexual trauma. This position requires specialized training and experience working toward Trauma resolution and conducting family therapy with families in crisis. The Therapist may at times provide services within the home of the clients. This position is a grant funded position from the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).   Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides psychological counseling services for youth and families under the care and supervision of Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation.  Counseling (individual and family) assignments may begin while the youth is in the detention center.  Provides crisis intervention, assessment, and monitoring services for the youth in the Girl’s Court Program.  May provide counseling services, crisis intervention/assessment services for youth who are attending school at a Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP).  Provides Mental Health Professional (MHP) On Call crisis management services for families and uouth in the Girl’s Court Program.  Provides consultation services for Probation and Detention Officers and other Probation/Legal staff as needed.  Complete and maintain all expected session and consultation documentation in a timely manner.  Submit monthly Psychology Productivity Report.  Assist in making referrals to Specialized Treatment Programs and community programs for youth and families when needed.  Provide recommendations on individual cases to the Probation Officer to be presented to the court.  Attend weekly staff meetings with legal personnel to review and discuss youth’s progress/status in the Girl’s Court Program.  May facilitate a weekly Girls’ Empowerment (GE) Group (Survivor group) after hours (i.e., 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm) for youth adjudicated to the Girls’ Court Program.  Assist with planning, coordinating and developing the specialized Girls’ Court Program curriculum.  May also assist with developing and implementing new programming as needed.  May also complete Behavioral Health Assessments when needed.  May participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or closely related field and licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas.  (Individuals who hold a license as a Professional Counselor at the Intern level (LPC-Intern) may also be considered depending on experience).  Experience working with females (ideally between the ages of 13 and 17) who are survivors of Human Trafficking, sexual abuse, sexual victimization, and sexual trauma is preferred.  This position requires specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and Multisystemic Therapy (MST).  The Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Department would be willing to provide the specialized training if the ideal candidate does not yet possess the desired specialized training certifications in TF-CBT and MST.  Solid computer and organizational skills, interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, counseling skills, and ability to deal effectively with the public, fellow employees, and elected officials; ability and willingness to complete work responsibilities within rigid deadlines; Valid Texas Driver License; On call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

 

SALARY RANGE:  Professional/Management Grade 13, $2,507.20 - $2,950.40 biweekly based on qualifications
