Description | The City of Hurst, nestled between Dallas and Fort Worth, is inviting candidates to be considered for the Animal Services Officer opening. This full time position is responsible for enforcing City ordinances and state laws as pertains to animals, and maintains the Hurst Animal shelter to meet State Health Code standards. Under the direction of the Hurst Police Department, the goal of Hurst Animal Services is to provide services to the public promptly and with professional precision tempered with compassion for those animals that cannot speak for themselves. This position requires some weekend and evening hours plus overtime, as needed. We are pleased to offer a starting pay range of $16.24 to $17.48 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Essential Job Functions
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Skill in the use of animal restraints.
2. Knowledge of animal behavior and City ordinances and state laws pertaining to Animal Control.
3. Ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, especially under stressful conditions.
4. Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, twist, lift, push, and pull under all types of conditions for extended periods of time to complete job assignments.
5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
6. Ability to read and follow safety procedures and City rules and codes.
7. Ability to maintain accurate records with attention to detail.
8. Ability to testify in Civil and Criminal court.
9. Ability to learn and adhere to the City of Hurst Code of Ideals.
10. Ability to use office equipment and software for reports.
11. Ability to testify in legal proceedings.
12. Ability to type 25 cwpm (skills test may be given).
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and valid State of Texas driver's license with a good driving record required. One year related experience preferred. Basic certification by the Texas Department of Health and must be certified in euthanasia training by 120th day of full-time employment.
