Description

A Hurst Residential Building Inspector delivers service to our citizens by conducting on-site inspections, reviewing plans, and conferring with contractors and homeowners.  The person who accepts this full-time position will become an integral member of the Hurst Planning and Community Development Department, whose mission is to promote the efficient and orderly development of private properties and businesses.  The department strives for excellence through teamwork, following the City’s Code of Ideals.   

We are pleased to offer an annual salary of $55,000 to $58,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts on-site inspections of new construction and repairs or alterations to existing structures and new businesses for Certificate of Occupancy. The Residential Building Inspector will also conduct on-site proposed structures to ensure compliance with Zoning and local ordinances.

 

  • Reviews plans to ensure new construction and alterations to existing structures conform to all applicable building codes. 

 

  • Conducts on-site inspections of buildings and residences with fire or structural damage to determine which repairs and permits are needed. 

 

  • Advises property owners and contractors on proper application of Building Codes.

 

  • Conducts on-site inspections of buildings and residences for compliance with the Rental Inspection Program.

 

  • Advises property owners/managers of application of the Property Maintenance Code and Rental Inspection Program provisions.

 

  • Enforces Zoning and other ordinances that pertain to property maintenance, health and safety and site plans.

 

  • Monitors contractors to ensure compliance with state and local licenses, permits and inspection procedures.

 

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, five years of experience in related field (city building inspection, residential construction) or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

A valid State of Texas Driver's License is required. Must hold current ICC Certifications in Residential Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or a Combination Inspector Certification. State Plumbing Inspector License is required. International Energy Conservation Code certifications required within one year.
