POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Our champion employees are a driving factor for making Sugar Land "One of America's Best".The Public Works Department has an opening for an Instrumentation & Control Technician.

 

The Instrumentation & Control Technician will work in a lead capacity, performing repairs, and replacements of instrumentation and control systems, equipment and components for water and wastewater facilities, such as treatment plants, pump stations and lift stations.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
  • In a lead capacity, perform complex diagnostics, repairs, and replacements of instrumentation and control systems, equipment and components for water and wastewater facilities, such as treatment plants, pump stations and lift stations.
  • Perform complex installations, calibrations, maintenance, and programming of flow meters, transmitters, controllers, and analytical equipment.
  • Read, interpret, modify and update blueprints, schematics, ladder logic and diagrams in order to troubleshoot, repair, or modify equipment, and to accurately reflect current operating systems.
  • Monitor and make visual inspections of control and instrumentation equipment to determine operating condition and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Perform complex diagnostics to analyze problems associated with instrumentation and control systems and programmable logic controllers using test equipment such as electronic meters, simulators, and software applications related to configuration and communications protocols for plant control, networking, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  • Perform complex equipment modifications in order to implement required design changes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and maintenance logs.
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster.
  • Performs any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Public Works Management Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Class " C" Texas Driver License. High School diploma or equivalent, plus four years' experience in the repair, installation, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation and control system equipment, including one year experience in water and wastewater facility or a closely related process facility.
  • Thirty semester hours of formal education in an appropriate field from an accredited institute or comparable military training will substitute for one year of experience OR an Associate of Arts or Science Technology degree from an accredited institution in a field related to instrumentation or control systems, plus two years' experience in a related field, including one year experience in a water and wastewater facility or a closely related process facility.
  • Ability to obtain TCEQ Grade D Surface Water License within one year of employment.
