The City of Reno, known as “The Biggest Little City in the World,” is recruiting for an exceptional Assistant City Manager who can execute the strategies of our City Manager and City Council. The Assistant City Manager (ACM) will lead assigned municipal functions, services and activities while working closely with the City Manager. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a strong leader with managerial courage, political acumen and an ethical vision. The top candidates will have significant experience in local government management, especially relating to citywide revitalization and growth. A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in public administration, business administration, urban planning or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with extensive work experience may be accepted. A Master’s degree is preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in government, including four years of department management experience is needed.

The City of Reno has 1,200 full-time employees, 14 departments and a wide range of city services, an annual general fund budget of nearly $200 million and an all-funds budget of more than $450 million. The ACM would work alongside a City Manager who is passionate about excellence, accountability, respect, integrity, innovation and an open and inclusive government.

The City of Reno has a Council/City Manager form of government with a seven-member Council elected to four-year terms. This ACM position reports directly to the City Manager and is an at-will appointed officer.
